About this calculator

Know exactly what you need on the final to land your target grade. Enter your current grade, your target and how much the final is worth, and this tool returns the minimum score you need plus an honest verdict on whether that score is even possible.

Formula explained

Your current work is worth (1 − w) of the grade, where w is the final’s weight as a decimal. Required = (Target − Current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. It asks how much the final must contribute to close the gap to your target.

Worked example

(85 − 78 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 30.4 ÷ 0.30 ≈ 101.3%. Above 100% is impossible without extra credit, so the target is out of reach on the final alone.

Tips & notes

  • Run it weeks early, not the night before, so you have time to act on the result.
  • Enter the final’s weight as a percentage of the whole grade, not a raw point value.
  • Treat a required score above 100% as a signal to change the target or find extra credit.
