About this calculator
Most percentage tools assume a wrong answer just earns nothing, but competitive exams like JEE, NEET and CAT deduct marks for wrong answers. This calculator builds negative marking in, turning your raw answers into an accurate percentage, a net score and a grade.
Formula explained
Score = Correct − (NegMark × Wrong), where NegMark is entered as a percentage of one mark (25 means a quarter-mark penalty). Then Percentage = Score ÷ Total × 100.
Worked example
40 − 0.25 × 5 = 38.75, then 38.75 ÷ 50 = 77.5% (B). Without the penalty you might have assumed 80%, so wrong answers quietly cost 2.5 points.
Tips & notes
- Leaving a genuinely unknown question blank usually beats a random guess at −25% or more.
- Confirm the exact negative-marking rule from your exam instructions before trusting the percentage.
- When reviewing practice tests, track how many marks the penalty removed, not just the score.
